From 1 September 2012, the criteria for S Pass and Employment Pass (EP) holders will be tightened.
To sponsor the stay of their spouses and children in Singapore, they will need to need to earn a fixed monthly salary of at least S$4,000. Other changes include the following:
- P1 Pass holders may still bring in their parents, spouses and children, but not parents-in-law
- P2 Pass holders may still bring in their spouses and children, but not parents or parents-in-law
Dependants of EP and S Pass holders in Singapore on 1 September 2012 will be allowed to stay in Singapore if they have valid work passes with their existing employers.
According to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the aim is to moderate the growth of the non-resident population and ease the pressure on Singapore's social infrastructure.
